Dairy company Food Union sends its first container of ice cream to China to the city of Shanghai today, informs LETA.

The first container is made up of 10 tons of ice cream. The contained will be shipped from Riga to Hamburg, and then to Shanghai.

The ice cream will be sold in ''premium-class'' supermarkets in the Chinese city, and will cost between EUR 4 to 5.

The company also expects a substantial increase in the volume of ice cream it exports to China in the future.

Food Union has become the first dairy company from the Baltics to export its products to China.

As reported, dairy plants Rigas piena kombinats and Valmieras piens of the dairy processing company Food Union have been included on the list of importers of the Certification and Accreditation Administration of the People's Republic of China (CNCA), thus, the company will begin to plan its first shipment of dairy products to China already this month.

"Inclusion of our dairy plants on the Chinese list of importers was a long-awaited and pleasant event, which was the last step in the two-year process in order to begin exports to China," says Normunds Stanevics, CEO of Rigas piena kombinats. He said that this is an especially important news, as earlier this month, the company was able to present its dairy products at Asia's largest and most prestigious food and drink exhibition in Shanghai.

LETA also reported, CNCA has published a list of ten Latvian food producers, who have been granted permits to export their dairy products to China.

The list includes Preilu siers, Rigas Piena kombinats, Valmieras piens, Latvijas Piens, Cesvaines Piens, Rankas Piens, Smiltenes piens, Smiltenes piens Blome Dairy Plant, Jaunpils pienotava, and Rigas Piensaimnieks.
