Four Latvian fish processing companies will be able to export their products to China from mid-2015, as Chinese Minister of General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine Zhi Shuping said during a meeting with Agriculture Minister Janis Duklavs on Tuesday, reports LETA.

China's General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine also confirmed during the meeting that ten Latvian dairy companies could export their products to China already now.

According to Duklavs, during a visit to Latvia last summer Shuping met with experts from the Agriculture ministry and Food and Veterinary Service, and visited several processing companies to form an impression about the Latvian food industry. This has led to a closer and constructive cooperation between the quality control authorities of Latvia and China.

"During the meetings on Tuesday, our Chinese colleagues confirmed that, after the acceptance process concludes in June, Latvian fish products will also be welcome on the Chinese market," said Duklavs. Another agreement reached is that the acceptance process for food products of Latvian companies that China is interested in will be given priority, added the minister.

As reported, Duklavs and the Food and Veterinary Service's Director General Maris Balodis are visiting China May 4 to 7 to discuss the opportunities for exporting more Latvian producers' goods to China.

LETA also reported, the Certification and Accreditation Administration of the People's Republic of China has published a list of ten Latvian food producers, who have been granted permits to export their dairy products to China.
