500 to 1,000 new jobs will be created in Rezekne in the coming three years, as Rezekne Mayor Aleksandrs Bartasevics (Harmony Center) said in an interview with LETA.

According to Bartasevics, a new bearing plant will be built on Vilakas Street, which will employ 150 workers. The plant is being designed at the moment, and the first facilities should be built by the end of the year. The new plant will be opened by Russian businessman.

A new pyrolysis plant on Maskavas Street, developed by Danish investors, will create fifty new jobs. Furthermore, the company Zalas dzirnavas is developing a wood processing facility in the city.

"If we can implement all the projects we have planned, 500 to 1,000 new jobs will be created in the city during the next three years," notes Bartasevics. Over EUR 30 million will be invested in infrastructure development, rehabilitation of degraded areas, wood processing, metalworking, food production and tourism.

The mayor is resolved to continue promoting business activity in Rezekne Special Economic Zone (SEZ). The number of companies operating in Rezekne SEZ has increased to seventeen, and the Rezekne SEZ offers major tax breaks for new companies and investors entering the city.

Bartasevics adds that revitalization of industrial zones is also being encouraged in the city.
