25 years ago Scandinavian Airlines started regular operations in Latvia with the first SAS airplane from Copenhagen having landed at Riga International airport on April 21, 1990, reports BC SAS press service.

In July 2008, SAS put the direct flight services to Latvia on hold and on March 29, 2015 Airline Company returned to the country by opening a direct route between Riga and Stockholm. Now SAS offers up to 18 weekly flights between the two capital cities: three daily flights on weekdays and up to two departures a day on weekends.

“For years Baltic countries have been on priority list for Scandinavian Airlines. Back in 1989 SAS started direct flight services to Tallinn, Estonia, in 1990 our first airplane landed in Riga, Latvia, and in 1992 SAS entered Lithuanian market with direct flights between Vilnius and Copenhagen”, says Ruta Juciene, SAS Country Manager Baltic States.

According to Ms. Jucienė, SAS is happy to return to Latvia as of this summer season and is looking forward to business development.
