In the first three months of 2015, the number of newly-registered passenger vehicles and commercial motor transport in Latvia reached 3,746, which is 9% more than in the respective period last year, the Latvian Automobile Association informed LETA.

The passenger vehicle market saw an increase of 13%, while the commercial motor transport market – an 11% drop.

The association says that the main changes took place in the corporate sector, while the number of private deals significantly grew. 2015 began with a significant supply of automobiles to Latvia in order to ensure the country's functions as the presiding country of the Council of the European Union.

In January, Latvia received 170 "BMW" and 50 "Ford" automobiles. "This is a key deal, however, it is important to remember that this, in fact, is more like a short-term lease, and after Latvia concludes its presidency, these automobiles will enter the country's used car market," the association emphasizes.

The most popular passenger vehicle in the first three months was "Nissan Qashqai" with 234 registered automobiles, followed by "Volkswagen Passat" (119), and "Golf" (111).

Meanwhile, the most popular commercial motor transport was "VW Caddy" (69), followed by "Peugeot Partner" (47), and "Renault Master" (45).
