The Latvian Academy of Sciences has bestowed its Honorary Benefactor honor to Minister of Health Guntis Belevics and Grindex Supervisory Board Chairman Kirovs Lipmans, reports LETA.

The award goes to individuals, who have provided major financial support for development of the sciences.

Accepting the honor on April 9th, Belevics underlined that the health care sector, like the sciences, for years has faced deficiencies. He expressed hope that "his contribution to the Academy, will bring it closer to its goal – if only by one centimeter." Belevics vowed support for Latvian scientists and academicians in the future as well.

Accepting his award, Lipmans pointed out that wherever he travels in the world, he always hears high praise for Latvian scientists.

The Honorary Benefactor title is being bestowed for the very first time with the approval of the Academy's Senate and plenary meeting.
