The telecommunications company Lattelecom offers more than 4,500 free Wi-Fi hotspots in all of Latvia, this according to Lattelecom spokesman Gusts Muzikants during the opening of the "Lattelecom-free WiFi" project today, reports LETA.

Wi-Fi hotspots will be free to access at seven public transportation stops in Riga – "Terbatas Street", "Inzenieru Street", "Esplanade", "Ezermalas Street", "National Theater", "Museum of Medicine", and "Gertrudes Street" – chosen due to the large passenger turnover at these stops.

The company believes that it is important to provide free access to the Internet for as many people as possible. "In discussing the project's future, we will observe how the said access points are used, and then focus on the future," Muzikants said.

When asked about free Wi-Fi access points in public transportation, Muzikants was unable to comment, adding that Lattelecom currently provides 1,000 access points in all of Riga – in parks, at bus stops, hospitals, schools, and other public places.
