The European justice system scoreboard, published on Monday, shows that the Estonian judicial system is among the most effective in the European Union based on several indicators, LETA/Public Broadcasting reports.

In 2013, it took an average of 130 days to solve civil and commercial disputes in first degree court, which is the third position after Luxembourg's 53 days, and Lithuania's 94 days, said spokeswoman of the Supreme Court Merje Talvik.

It took 139 days in Estonia to solve administrative issues in the first level court, which is the seventh result of the table.

Estonia is on the first position in the table using ICT possibilities for expedited proceedings of payment orders, receiving, together with Malta and Portugal, a maximum evaluation for all seven evaluation criteria, i.e. a total of 700 points.

Estonia was on a high position in the table regarding participation of judges in EU legislation or other member states legislation related training programs.

Also, Estonia was in the upper half of the scoreboard regarding the perception of independence of the court system.

Estonia was in the lower half of the table regarding the number of lawyers and judges, and the amount of money spent on courts.

In 2013, there were 67 lawyers and 17 judges per 100,000 inhabitants in Estonia.

In Estonia, 25.2 euros per person is spent on courts.
