Latvia will have access to EUR 30 million of the European Union's funds in 2014-2020 for the purpose of improving the country's export performance, the Economy Ministry informed LETA.

Edmunds Valantis, Director of EU funds implementation department at the Ministry of Economics, indicated that the said funding will be used to sponsor participation of Latvian companies in international and national trade fairs, as well as to issue certificates and support trade missions. "Support measures for the new planning period will not differ from the ones used during the previous period," the ministry's expert said.

Valantis said that the Economy Ministry is currently focusing on slight changes in the program in order to provide larger support for export activities for companies who have made larger investments. "We are thinking of ways on how to improve the program in order to facilitate exports," Valantis emphasized.

When asked about any new support programs for the next planning period, Valantis promised that there will be news.

"[..] we will assist IT companies, as well as facilitate tourism activities and provide support for industrial facilities in order to increase their energy efficiency," the expert said.
