Forest industry exports in Latvia rise to new record-high of over EUR 2 bln in 2014

Latvian forest industry's exports amounted to a record-high EUR 2.015 billion in 2014, which is 8.6% up from 2013 when the forest industry's exports totaled EUR 1.855 billion, reports LETA, according to data from the Agriculture Ministry's Forest Department.

Export of timber and products of timber amounted to EUR 1.73 billion – 9% up on 2013.

 

As usual, the largest export markets for Latvian forest industry products were Great Britain, Sweden and Germany. 16.7% of Latvian forestry industry exports worth EUR 336.676 million in total went to Great Britain, 10.6% (EUR 213.395 million) to Sweden, and 10.5% (EUR 211.624 million) to Germany.

 

At the same time, forest industry imports also increased last year, amounting to EUR 688.740 million – 17.3% more than in 2013.

 

Also traditionally, the bulk of Latvian forestry industry's imports came from Lithuania that accounted for 19.9% of the total value of imports (EUR 137.34 million), followed by Estonia – 12.1% (EUR 83.62 million), and Poland – 11.7% (EUR 80.30 million).
