Finnish burger chain Hesburger plans to open 20 new fast-food restaurants in Latvia in the next seven years, the director of the fast-food chain Kari Salmela told LETA.

He pointed out that Hesburger has continued to develop in Latvia by opening between three to four fast-food restaurants per year, and that this trend will continue.

''We have already opened 42 Hesburger restaurants in Latvia, and we believe there is room for about 20 more,'' he said.

He added that Hesburger plans to continue investing in Latvia and will invest approximately EUR 3.5 million this year to expand its network of fast-food restaurants.

Hesburger has already announced it will open up a new restaurant in Tukums, and another one in Riga this year.

As reported, the Finnish-Baltic fast-food restaurant chain Hesburger posted EUR 48 million in sales in the Baltic countries last year, which is 7.4 percent more than in 2013, as Hesburger Development Director for the Baltic countries Ieva Salmela told LETA.

Hesburger turnover in Latvia totaled EUR 17.5 million, in Lithuania – EUR 11.9 million, and in Estonia – EUR 18.6 million. The company invested EUR 3 million in opening new Hesburger restaurants in Latvia last year.

Hesburger opened four new restaurants in Riga in 2014, said Salmela. The data for 2014 indicate that the company's development is steady and growing.

A total of eight new Hesburger restaurants opened in the Baltic countries last year, including four in Riga.

Hesburger runs more than 400 restaurants in Finland, Baltic countries, Germany, Russia and Turkey, which employ over 6,100 people. Last summer the company celebrated ten years of doing business in Latvia.
