New types of medication will eventually be produced that will be a boon to expansion of the export market – this is the expected result of the opening of Olainfarm’s new plant in Latvia in 2015.

This was revealed to LETA yesterday by Olainfarm Pharmaceuticals board member Salvis Lapins.

The new ready-made mould plant will open the door for new forms of tablets that will give economic viability for manufacturing smaller series of drugs.

"New compounds are now possible from existing ingredients, and it appears that we will be able to double production of smaller series," Lapins pointed out. The company has plans this year for export to Mongolia, and hopefully, also Bosnia and Albania.

Olainfarm CEO Valerijs Maligins sees heightened ability to compete on the "growing nitrofuran market worldwide.

Nitrofurans are a class of drugs typically used as antibiotics or antimicrobials.

"We have years of experience in manufacturing nitrofuran product; as a matter of fact, we are the sole manufacturer in Latvia and the Baltics. Nitrofurans make up over 20% of what we put out," said Maligins.
