3% more tourists stayed in Estonian hotels in November y-o-y

According to Statistics Estonia, 216,000 tourists stayed in accommodation establishments in November 2014, which was 3% more than in November 2013. The number of both foreign and domestic tourists increased.

In November, 134,000 foreign tourists stayed in accommodation establishments, which was 2% more than in the same month of the year 2013. 48% of the foreign tourists using the services of accommodation establishments arrived from Finland, 17% from Russia and 7% from Latvia. Compared to November 2013, the number of tourists arriving from Finland and Latvia increased by 3% and 16%, respectively. Also, there was an increase in the number of accommodated tourists from Lithuania, Germany and the United Kingdom. The number of tourists arriving from Asian countries has increased throughout the entire year. One-fifth fewer tourists from Russia stayed in accommodation establishments than in November 2013.

 

73% of the foreign tourists who used the services of accommodation establishments stayed in the accommodation establishments of Tallinn. 78% of tourists from Finland and 64% of tourists from Russia preferred the services of accommodation establishments of Tallinn. The next most popular destinations among tourists from Finland were Pärnu and Tartu counties, which accommodated, respectively, 7% and 3% of the tourists from Finland who used the services of accommodation establishments. For tourists arriving from Russia, the next most popular destinations were Ida-Viru and Tartu counties (accommodating, respectively, 15% and 7% of the tourists from Russia who stayed in accommodation establishments).

 

In November, 82,000 domestic tourists stayed in accommodation establishments, which was 5% more than in November 2013. 31% of the accommodated domestic tourists stayed in Harju county, 17% in Pärnu county and 12% in Tartu county. 55% of the domestic tourists were on a holiday trip and 30% were on a business trip.

 

In November, 912 accommodation establishments offered services for tourists. 19,000 rooms and 43,000 beds were available for tourists. In November, the room occupancy rate was 41% and the bed occupancy rate was 31%. The average cost of a guest night was 34 euros, which is two euros more than in November 2013. The average cost of a guest night in Tallinn and Lääne-Viru county was higher than the country’s average.
