Forest industry export and import in Latvia continued to rise in 2014

Latvian forest industry's export continued to increase during the first ten months of 2014, amounting to EUR 1.70 billion (a 9.5% increase) as compared to EUR 1.55 billion in the same period of 2013, reports LETA, referring to data from the Agriculture Ministry's Forest Department.

Export of wood and wood products totaled EUR 1.46 billion, or 10% more than in the respective period of 2013.

 

As usual, the majority of Latvian forest industry exports went to Great Britain, Sweden, and Germany. Forest industry exports to Great Britain totaled EUR 280.122 million (16.5% of total forest industry export), to Sweden – EUR 180.842 million (10.6%), and to Germany – EUR 180.964 million (10.6%).

 

Forest industry imports amounted to EUR 576.42 million in January-October, which is 18% more than in the respective period of 2013, when the figure was EUR 488.56 million.

 

The majority of forest industry imports came from Lithuania – EUR 114.28 million or 19.8% of all imports, Estonia – EUR 69.52 million (12%), and Poland – EUR 69.32 million (11.6%).

 

As reported, the total value of Latvia's forest industry exports reached EUR 1.875 billion in 2013, a 10% increase on 2012 when forest industry exports totaled EUR 1.704 billion.


Forest industry imports amounted to EUR 590.554 million last year, 17.9% more than in 2012, when the figure stood at EUR 500.736 million.
