Cargo ship Sea Wind, which is owned by AS Tallink Grupp, starts its operations on Tallinn-Vuosaari route on 8th of January 2015. The ship will be under Estonian flag and the crew will consist of Estonian seamen, reports BC port’s press service.

According to AS Tallink Grupp, the rerouting of the ship is linked to the increased cargo transportation demand on the Finland-Estonia route and the shorter route enables to decrease the fuel costs in the lights of the overall fuel cost increase in next year. Also, adding a specialized cargo ship should ease complicated loading situations with cargo on Shuttle ships, improving the service for car passengers.

The schedule of the ship has two roundtrips per day from Monday to Friday. The trip will last 3,5 hours. From Monday to Friday the departures from Tallinn Old City Harbour’s D-terminal take place at 6.30 and 17.30 and from Vuosaari from 12.00 and 23.00. On Saturday there are no departures and on Sunday there are evening departures scheduled at 17.30 from Tallinn and 23.00 from Vuosaari.

Vuosaari port is situated near the area of logistical centers and direct access to several highways, enabling the cargo vehicles quickly enter or exit the port without driving through the city area making it an attractive route for cargo customers.

Sea Wind capacity on the new route will be 119 passenger vacancies and 98 cabins for drivers of the cargo vehicles. The vessel has 880 lane meters of freight capacity and altogether 1000 lane meters of car deck. She is built in 1972, renovated in 1984 and 1989 and has the ice class of 1B.
