Civil defense training took place at the Riga Fertilizer Terminal

On July 3, 2014 the State Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) in collaboration with the SIA Riga Fertilizer Terminal has organized practical local civil defense training, informed BC port’s press service.

The training objective is to test and improve the established procedures and measures set out in the company's civil defense plan, in the external emergency plan and to check how the specialists, responsible for the object, interact with personnel of the rescue and emergency services and other state and local government institutions through the disaster management activities in case of adverse events or industrial accidents. The training scenario assumes that there has been an industrial accident at the SIA Riga Fertilizer Terminal resulting in fatalities.

 

Not only the company's employees and VUGD officials took part in the training, but also the staff of the Emergency Medical Service, the National Police, the Riga Municipal Police, the State Environmental Service and the Freeport employees.

 

The facility alarm siren as activated in the framework of the training. The SFRS apologizes for inconvenience caused by the vehicle movement, and for possible anxiety due to the said training.

 

Latvian legislation requires that civil defense practical training at such objects as the SIA Riga Fertilizer Terminal must take place on a regular basis.
