Heads of government agencies, international authorities and leading national scientists in the field of energy and green technologies are expected to attend these events.

The panel session on 22 May 2014 is being organized by the Kazakhstan National Academy of Natural Sciences in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan and ‘Parasat’ National Science and Technology Holding.

The discussions will focus on the document entitled “Sustainable Energy Strategy for the Future of Kazakhstan up to 2050”, which was drawn up by scientists from Kazakhstan, Russia, United States and Canada. 

Building on the initiatives launched by Kazakhstan’s Head of State, Nursultan Nazarbayev, on Global Energy Strategy and EXPO-2017, supported by the international community, their goal was to develop a programme for achieving the “Kazakhstan-2050” objectives on sustainable energy.

The concept of the Strategy was presented and discussed in the framework of the VI Astana Economic Forum last year. The Strategy developers then held a series of meetings with the staff of the UN Secretariat and the UN Secretary General's office in order to consider the Strategy.

The result of these discussions was the approval of Kazakhstan’s decision to develop a National Energy Strategy. Representatives of the UN Secretariat noted that the developing strategy is “fully consistent with the spirit and letter of the Rio+20 outcome document ‘The future we want’, and the goals of the UN initiative Sustainable Energy for All up to 2030 (universal access to modern energy services, doubling the share of renewable energy, doubling energy efficiency).
