Estonian Minister of Foreign Affairs Urmas Paet and Academy of Arts rector Signe Kivi on August 25 opened a young designers exhibition SASI at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Estonia, as the authorities' press release says.

According to Paet, the new design by younger artists is an increasingly important part of Estonian creative industries sector and already enjoys strong international potential.

"The Foreign Ministry can contribute to popularizing Estonian design. Young designers have partners in the form of economic and cultural affairs diplomats in embassies who can provide advice and help establish foreign contacts," said Paet.

The SASI exhibition will introduce the nominees and winners of the Young Estonian Designer award, the SASI 2010. This year's award went to textile designer Karin Luuk. Smaller SASI awards went to ceramic artist Raili Keivi and the product designer duo of Sven Sellik and Pent Talvet.

The award is given to young Estonian designers for outstanding work in product design in the last three years. The competition was initiated in 2005 by MTÜ Sina, Mina ja Keegi. For its first three years, the competition were held in cooperation with the Academy of Arts, and in 2010 the partner is the Estonian Design Centre.
