Community of Democracies Parliamentary Forum to be set up in Lithuania

On March 11-12, an international meeting of the countries that belong to the Community of Democracies will take place in the Seimas. More than 30 parliamentary representatives from various countries will participate in the commemoration of the Act of March 11 and will set up the Community of Democracies Parliamentary Forum.

The meeting will be opened by patron of the event – Seimas Speaker Irena Degutiene.

 

At the forum, a video congratulation by President of the European Parliament Jerzy Buzek will be broadcasted, Professor Vytautas Lansbergis, Moldovan Parliamentary Speaker Mikhai Gimpu, Georgian Parliamentary Speaker David Bakradze, Members of the European Parliament – Michal Tomas Kaminskis, Michael Galer and Nirj Derva, and other distinguished guests will deliver speeches, reports LETA/ELTA.

 

During the meeting, the objectives, structure and leadership of the Parliamentary Forum will be discussed.

 

The Community of Democracies, which is chaired by Lithuania in 2009-2011, is a global inter-governmental alliance bringing together more than 100 democratic countries.

 

The major goal of the Community is to promote and strengthen democratic norms and institutions all over the world.
