Several Latvian enterprises have received medals at this weeks "Prodexpo 2010" exhibition in Moscow, the business portal Nozare.lv was informed by public relations specialist for the Marketinga padome association Andra Udre.

The Liepaja (southwestern Latvia) fish processing company Kolumbija received a medal of honor "For High Quality". This medal was received by only three participants in the exhibition, reports LETA,

At the same time, medal nominations for "Best Product" were received by several Latvian food companies.

Gold medals were received by Gamma-A for the product "Riga Gold" sprats in oil, Sabiedriba IMS for the product "Riga Sprats in Oil", and Kolumbija for the product "Tuna in Jelly".

Silver medals were received by Sabiedribas IMS for the products "Atlantic Herring Fillets in Curry Sauce" and "Smoked Fish Paste with Paprika", and by Brivais vilnis for the product "Riga Sardines in Olive Oil".

"The agreements and deals made during the exhibition amount to several millions of lats. The medals and other quality indicators received once again bear out the fact that Latvia's fish product sector is one of the leading players in the Russian market," said president of the Latvian Fish Processing Industry Union Didzis Smits.

Smits noted that his organization was in agreement with Agriculture Minister Janis Duklavs, who feels that it is crucially important for the industry at the moment to secure turnover in order to be able to fulfill orders and increase exports. Smits also welcomed the minister's pledge to solve this matter at government level.

Smits evaluated the exhibition as very successful, as it had again confirmed the great importance for Latvia of participating in international exhibitions. This is the second exhibition where the leading Latvian fish processing companies have taken part with one unified stand, which again bears witness to the fact that even the most bitter competitors can come together for a common goal in foreign markets.
