Autosport Union, Rally Estonia trying to bring WRC stage to Estonia

BC, Tallinn, 17.06.2020.Print version
The Estonian Autosport Union and Rally Estonia have announced in a joint statement that they are trying together to bring a World Rally Championship (WRC) stage to Estonia, informs LETA/BNS.

Rally Estonia Director Urmo Aava and Board Chairman of the Estonian Autosport Union Janis Kaal announced that the differences between the two organizations have been resolved and cooperation towards achieving common goals will continue.

"The litigation has been ended and both sides have learned from the events of the past. The parties will move forward stronger, more aware and more considerate than before," the joint press release reads.

Aava and Kaal announced that there's a very great probability that has arisen earlier than expected that for first the first time ever a WRC stage will be held on Estonian roads.

Aava confirmed that an offer has been made to Rally Estonia by the promoter of WRC to stage a WRC stage in Estonia in 2020.

"For that, we have filed various applications to various institutions. We should receive responses to them in the next few days, and after that we can enter into negotiations with the FIA and the  WRC promoter," Aava said.

"We are in a fortunate situation where in addition to the reigning world champion we also have local competence for the staging of world-level sports events. Urmo and his team have in previous years clearly proven their capability to stage a rally event of the world championship level," Kaal said.
