European directors and experts of better regulation to meet in Estonia

BC, Tallinn, 26.06.2017.Print version
irectors and experts of better regulation from EU member states and institutions are to gather in Tallinn on Tuesday to discuss the principles of the field as well as successes and shortcomings, reports LETA/BNS.

The conference will establish the basis for activities concerning better regulation during the Estonian EU presidency.

"In Estonia we are guided by the principle that new regulations must be created only if regulatory intervention is necessary and other fitting measures can no longer be implemented. We must try to show the same in our activities in the direction of the European Union and as the presidency holder we must even more actively ensure that the fundamentals of good regulation are taken heightened notice of in all of the work groups of the council," Estonian Minister of Justice Urmas Reinsalu said.

The conference has become a tradition as the network meeting of the directors of better regulation, which has been organized for more than 15 years. The organizer of the conference is the EU presidency holder and this time it will be Estonia's turn to hold the conference as the country takes over the EU presidency on July 1.

In the context of the European Union, better regulation is closely related to business and raising competitiveness. Topics will also be discussed from this point of view at the conference. The theme of developing competitiveness also runs through Estonia's source documents concerning better regulation, for example development trends in Estonia's justice policy until 2018 and the Justice Ministry's 2015 plan to decrease the volume of legislation.

Participants of the conference to take place in Tallinn on June 27 include directors of better regulation of all EU member states and institutions, whose duty it is to develop the main directions of better regulation policies, as well as experts from the OECD as an organization who is the establisher of the international standard of better regulation. Approximately 90 participants are expected in Tallinn on Tuesday.
