“Moments of Ballet”: a New Exhibition in Rietumu Gallery

BC, Riga, 10.03.2017.Print version
An exhibition of photographs – “Moments of Ballet” – has opened in Rietumu Art Gallery. It is timed to coincide with the forthcoming guest performance of the USA ballet stars at the Latvian National Opera on 21 March. This guest tour of the American artists in Latvia has been supported by Rietumu Bank and its Charity Fund.

For the first time, dancers from the best ballet companies of the USA will hold a joint guest performance in Riga, on the stage of the Latvian Opera. Spectators will be able to see presentations of famous choreographers – Christopher Wheeldon, Jerome Robbins, as well as the legendary George Banalnchine, who laid the foundations of American ballet and modern neoclassical ballet art in general.

The organiser of the photo exhibition, which is timed to coincide with this event, is Rietumu Charity Fund. According to the organisers, the main task of the exhibition is to show the beauty of plastic dance and modern ballet art. The exposition does not focus on a specific school and is not restricted within certain geographical frames.

“Throughout a number of centuries, the art of choreography admires, excites and attracts peoples of different cultures and epochs. This is the language, which is clear to all without interpretation, and this statement is fair concerning both classics and modern dance. Ballet brings us closer together, creates the atmosphere of a holiday, arises the feeling of beauty and harmony. When arranging the exhibition, we presented it as a kind of a pre-party, which introduces performances of the American artists in the National Opera. This way we greet all connoisseurs of ballet and wish them to derive a real pleasure both from the exhibition and the forthcoming concert,” said Alexander Gafin, Member of the Supervisory Board of Rietumu Bank.

The exhibition will be held until 22 March and will be open on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission, like always, is free.

Location: Headquarters of Rietumu Bank – Rietumu Capital Centre at 7 Vesetas Street, Riga.
