The budget of Latvia’s participation in Astana Expo 2017, an international trade fair to be held in the Kazakh capital this year, is around EUR 800,000, Janis Endzins, board chairman of the Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), told LETA.

The LCCI representative added that the total costs of participation in the trade fair might still change and will updated.

In Endzins’ words, the Latvian government this year is not financing companies’ participation in Asana Expo and that the financing is being provided by the entrepreneurs themselves.

Applying for participation in the expo is ongoing. The minimum costs for a company taking part in the event is from EUR 2,200, excluding EU co-funding, which can be raised by taking part in the trade fair.

Latvia plans to organize its participation in the event by thematic weeks: transit and logistics week, education and ICT week and regional week.

Endzins said that interest in participation in the expo has been strong so far. Ten companies’ participation has been confirmed already, and talks about technical details are ongoing with around 50 companies.

Latvia is expected to finish its pavilion at Astana Expo 2017 by May 26.

Ansis Egle, director of the Latvian pavilion at Astana Expo 2017, said that the motto of the Latvian pavilion would be about Latvia as a meeting place. At the exhibition, Latvia will be positioned as a bridge connecting the West and the East. The pavilion will feature innovative technologies complemented by virtual reality solutions.

Astana, the capital city of Kazakhstan, will host Expo 2017 from June 10 to September 10, 2017.
