International Council for Exploration of the Sea annual conference to take place in Riga next week
The conference will bring together several hundred
scientists from both sides of the Atlantic who will share their experience and
discuss maritime resource management, sea exploration, and environmental
matters, as well as present their latest scientific achievements.
Together with marine environment experts and policy
developers, the total number of participants in the conference will exceed 500.
The ICES is a global organization that develops science and
advice to support the sustainable use of the oceans. The ICES is a network of
more than 4,000 scientists from over 350 marine institutes in 20 member
countries and beyond. 1,600 scientists participate in ICES activities annually.
Through strategic partnerships ICES work also extends into the Arctic, the
Mediterranean Sea, the Black Sea, and the North Pacific Ocean.
The conference will run from Monday, September 19, through
Friday, September 23, at Radisson Blue Hotel Latvija on Elizabetes Street in
Riga.
Latvia joined ICES in 1937, renewed its membership in 1993, and will now host the Annual Science Conference for the first time.
