Riga to host a meeting of political directors from Baltic, Nordic, US foreign ministries

On 21-22 June, Riga will welcome a meeting of political directors of the Foreign Ministries from the countries – members of the Enhanced Partnership in Northern Europe (e-PINE). The meeting is hosted by Latvia as the country coordinating the Baltic and Nordic cooperation (NB8) in 2016, informed BC the Latvian MFA.

The meeting will address current developments and future cooperation in the areas set as this year’s priorities for the NB8: the security situation in the Baltic Sea region in the run-up to the NATO Summit in Warsaw; energy security; strategic communication; and developments in the European Union’s eastern and southern neighbourhoods.

 

The participants of the meeting with also visit the NATO Centre of Excellence for Strategic Communications to hear about its activities and discuss ways for cooperation on effectively addressing the propaganda war and hybrid threat.

 

e-PINE was launched in 2003 as a broader application of the U.S.-Baltic Charter with the aim of strengthening cooperation between the United States of America, the Baltic States and the Nordic countries. Regular consultations in the e-PINE format are held at the level of political directors from the Nordic and Baltic States and the U.S. (NB8+1); they exchange views on matters of high international and regional importance.
