BC, Riga, 18.08.2015.Print version
‘Facing a change: opportunities or threats for the Baltic market?’ will be the theme of the Baltic Ports Conference 2015 organized by the Baltic Ports Organization and hosted by the Freeport of Riga Authority. The conference is an associated event with the BPO General Assembly. The meeting will take place in Free Port of Riga Authority headquarter on September 3-4, 2015.

The Baltic maritime market is currently facing a change caused by new market conditions. New geopolitical conditions in the region and weakening of Russian economy have an impact on trade volumes. There are dynamic trend in rail transportation of goods from China to Europa. Moreover, Turkey is a growing trade partner for EU countries including Baltic region. How these new developments influence the Baltic maritime transport and ports in particular? This year Baltic Port Conference will tackle these questions.

The second day of the event will be dedicated to EU transport policy and financing. In particular the debate will focus on how to link TEN-T land based corridor concept with Motorways of the Sea programme, what are the financial opportunities for ports, how a new investment plan for EU proposed by Jean-Claude Juncker, President of the European Commission, would impact the funds secured for transport infrastructure.

The discussion is to be held with presence of Mr. Brian Simpson, European Coordinator for Motorways of the Sea and Mr. Jose Anselmo, Principal Administrator of the European Commission’s Directorate General for Mobility and Transport, DG TREN.
