Latvia's famous Laima Confectionery will be marking World Chocolate Day at the Laima clock in Riga's Old Town on Saturday, July 11, as Laima's representative Dana Ercina-Uzane told LETA.

For the occasion, Laima will build a thematic jungle oasis in the city center, Ercina-Uzane said.

The public will have the opportunity to send special retro postcards and taste chocolates from the "Retro" line of the confectionery – also as be a part of events marking the 145th anniversary of Laima.

Laima will also be waiting for visitors at the Laima Chocolate Museum where they will be shown the entire chocolate-making process.

World Chocolate Day celebrations at the Laima clock on Saturday will continue from 12 noon to 4 p.m.

World Chocolate Day was first observed in France in 1995 but has since gained popularity worldwide. The emphasis is on the various good qualities and different tastes of chocolate.

Laima exports its products to more than 37 countries, including to the United States, Canada, China, Israel, Great Britain, Ireland, Russia, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan. Exports account for 15% of Laima's turnover.

In 2013, Laima posted EUR 10.84 million in turnover (11% up on 2012) and EUR 5.75 million in profit (up from EUR 1.12 million in 2012).

The company has not yet released its 2014 report.

Since August 2014, Laima belongs to the Norwegian company Orkla, which also acquired the other NP Foods group's companies – Gutta, NP Foods, Staburadze, UAB Margiris and Detente – from the company Nordic Partners Foods.
