Themed Future Energy, EXPO 2017 is to take place in the Kazakh capital city Astana from 10 June to 10 September 2017. More than 100 countries are expected to participate, and the potential number of visitors during the three months is estimated at more than 5 million people.

Lithuania has been active in all the World EXPO events since it regained independence in 1990, and the government is currently discussing a plan for EXPO 2017, prepared by the Energy, Finance and Foreign ministries. Under the proposal, the Ministry of Environment should be responsible for the country's presentation, supported by the Ministry for Energy.

"The key theme of this exhibition is of great importance for Lithuania as it is currently on a path toward total energy sector independence and is working to honour its international obligations for the use of renewable energy resources," Environment Minister Treciokas said.

During the exhibition, Lithuania intends to present its progress achieved to date: the launch of its Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) terminal Independence; the construction of power links with Poland and Sweden, LitPol Link and NordBalt, which are expected to turn Lithuania into a Baltic electricity distribution hub; its highly successful BOD Group and Precizika solar cell production projects, etc.

"Participation in the Astana exhibition will provide an excellent opportunity for our businesses to search for new partners and highlight their achievements. The Republic of Kazakhstan, which will be hosting this event, is a strategic economic partner in the area of transport as well as agricultural and industrial exports. Lithuania's participation in the World EXPO trade fair will also be useful to other ministries, who could use this opportunity to take their international efforts in new promising directions," the environment minister said.
