A disciplinary investigation at the Economy Ministry of Latvia has revealed major violations in the organization of Latvia's participation in the "Expo Milano 2015" project. As a result, disciplinary cases were opened against six Economy Ministry officials, of which three have been suspended from their jobs, informs LETA.

The investigative commission has found that the project on Latvia's participation in the international "Expo Milano 2015" trade fair lacked an appropriate and efficient managing board, which could assess Latvia's potential organization models and their risks. The commission also revealed significant shortcomings in the use of funds allocated for the project.

Other violations include failure to comply with the deadlines, inadequate procurement tenders, poor quality contracts and insufficient supervision of implementation of the contracts, the Economy Ministry said in a press release.

The commission concluded that the said actions were the main reason why the project failed to meet the initial budget, deadlines, and the necessary quality.

As a result, Economy Minister Dana Reizniece-Ozola (Greens/Farmers) decided to initiate a disciplinary case against six ministry officials, of which three have been suspended from their jobs pending the investigation in the case.
