Estonia doesn’t wish major changes in EU budget

The Riigikogu European Union affairs committee discussed on Friday the course of negotiations of the European Union 2014-2020 budget in the European Parliament which decided not to ratify the budget on March 13 and adopted a resolution wording its negotiation positions, LETA/Public Broadcasting reports.

"Estonia is satisfied with the results achieved at the European Council meeting and we don't wish to see radical changes in the budgetary plan. At the same time it is understandable that the European Parliament has its own role at the European Union budget talks that has to be respected," said EU affairs committee chairman Arto Aas.

Aas said that in the Europarliament positions, there aren’t any positions that would be completely unacceptable for Estonia but he said that it is a bit premature to calculate revenues from financial transactions tax into the budget as own means.

Aas said that active talks are expected over the next three months and that the budget would be agreed upon by summer. "We are optimistic about that," he said.
