The government of Latvia decided yesterday to increase the 2015 budget spending projection by EUR 133.1 million, Finance Minister Janis Reirs (Unity) told the press representatives, cites LETA.

Reirs indicated that the largest part of the increase will go to healthcare – EUR 30.1 million. The education budget will be increased by EUR 20 million in 2015 as compared with 2014. This amount includes EUR 3 million for teachers' salaries, to be allotted from September 1, 2015.

Reirs said that the additional EUR 33 million will be allocated to agriculture in response to farmers' demands for direct payments. Thus, farmers will receive the EUR 50 million they have requested next year.

The transport sector will receive about EUR 12.1 million in addition.

Independent institutions, such as the Constitutional Court, Latvian State Radio and others, will receive extra EUR 2.3 million.

Reirs said that the government could take the final decision on the 2015 budget revenue and spending amounts already this Friday. According to the minister, the government's work on the 2015 budget has been on schedule so far. "If the government continues working in this way, next year's budget will be confirmed and come into effect before January 1," the minister said.
