Lithuania's current account balance in August at EUR 160 mln

BC, Vilnius, 16.10.2014.Print version
In August 2014, the build-up of the current account balance (CAB) in surplus (LTL 552.9 million, or EUR 160.1 million) was driven by a strong decline in the trade balance deficit, as well as the remaining surplus in the balances of services, secondary income and capital account, reports LETA/ELTA.

The positive financial account balance (LTL 328.8 million, or EUR 95.2 million) was due to the positive flow of net portfolio, official reserve assets and net other investment, the Bank of Lithuania informs.

In August 2014 the country's balance of payments for the fifth consecutive month recorded a CAB surplus, which amounted to LTL 552.9 million and was 6.4 times larger than in July (LTL 86.3 million). This increase was due to significantly decreased trade balance deficit – it amounted to LTL 22.4 million, as well as a 14.6 increase in the balance of services surplus (LTL 492.8 million).

According to preliminary estimates, in January-August 2014 the CAB surplus amounted to LTL 1.5 billion, (EUR 447.8 million), while in the same period in 2013 – LTL 377.1 million (EUR 109.2 million).
