New EUR 10 banknote enters circulation

BC, Riga, 23.09.2014.Print version
The new EUR 10 banknote enters circulation in Latvia and other eurozone countries today, informs LETA.

The second series EUR 10 banknote is visually similar to the first series banknote, but its design has been slightly changed and security features improved.

The new banknote will enter circulation gradually via commercial banks. The first series banknotes will not be returned into circulation after they enter the Bank of Latvia – they will be replaced by the new series banknotes. The first series banknotes will nevertheless remain legal tender. Business owners and residents are not required to exchange the old banknotes in any special way – the new series banknotes will enter circulation automatically via commercial banks and the Bank of Latvia.

The euro banknotes are protected with various counterfeiting elements, such as raised printing, watermarks, security threads, microprint and holograms. The new series banknotes are supplemented with new counterfeiting elements to provide better protection against counterfeiting.
