In the first half of 2013 the 63 credit unions recorded a 20% increase of online banking users and their online transactions, informs LETA/ELTA, referring to the data of Lithuanian Central Credit Union (Lietuvos Centrine Kredito Unija – LCKU).

According to Head of LCKU Product Development Group Simona Kukyte, in the first half of 2013 more than 33,000 customers were using i-Unija – an online banking service offered by the 63 credit unions. Which is a 23% increase in users year-on-year.

Kukyte said that their customer transactions online grew by 20% and amounted to LTL 337 million (EUR 98 million). The reasons behind the growth were the increase of credit union customers and the lowest fees in online banking sector.

The major part of i-Unija system users were natural persons – 30,300.

Customers of LCKU union system made 234,000 transactions online in the first half of 2013. The amount of transactions increased from LTL 281 million in 2012 to LTL 337 million in 2013.

There are 75 licensed unions in Lithuania, 63 of which operate under LCKU system and are members of the Association of Lithuanian Credit Unions. Only LCKU system unions offer a wide range of services – online banking i-Unija, MasterCard and Maestro credit card support, payment for utilities, money transfer in Lithuania and abroad.
