The Bank of Lithuania states that in 2012 the loan portfolio increased by more than 1% or LTL 17 million (EUR 5 million), banks were more in favour of borrowing, reports LETA, referring to Respublika.

Increased public confidence in the banking system is allegedly proven by deposit growth. In 2012 deposit volume increased by about 10% and it improved the all-time record, exceeding the LTL 43.5 billion (12.5 billion) threshold.

Vasiliauskas did not miss a chance to express his opinion on the euro introduction. According to the chairman of the Board of the Bank of Lithuania has a realistic chance to adopt the euro in 2015, yet it is necessary to manage public finance deficit.

Vasiliauskas also says that Seimas intention to redistribute this year budget poses serious threat on the euro introduction. "I can only agree with those who think that it would be the same as to open the Pandora box. I would not see any real opportunities of a freedom of maneuver yet, "said Vasiliauskas.
