The Estonian Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) paid 36.7 mln euros of unemployment insurance compensations in 2012 while collecting 137.1 million euros from insurance payments of employees, LETA/Äripäev.ee reports.

The council of UIF approved on Tuesday of the fund's 2012 economic reports.

UIF council chairman Tarmo Kriis said that last year, the number of people who raised their qualifications with the help of UIF grew considerably. While in 2011, every 5th client of the UIF particulate in labour market services, in 2012 already every third did.

UIF board chairman Meelis Paavel said that UIF mediated over 50,000 different jobs of companies in 2012. Paavel said that most likely the number of the unemployed will continue to fall this year although not as fast as in the couple of earlier years.

The UIF net assets amounted to 469.4 million euros at the end of 2012.

Employers paid 73.8 million euros as insurance payments and UIF paid 12 million euros as compensations for redundancies and insolvencies of employers.

The total unemployment insurance costs (compensations, social tax on compensations) amounted to 57.7 mln euros last year.
