Estonian Health Insurance Fund council approves of annual reports

Estonian Health Insurance Fund (HIF) approved on Friday of the fund's 2012 annual reports, according to which the fund's revenues were 783,131 million euros in 2012, increasing by nearly 7% as compared to 2011, LETA/Äripäev.ee reports.

The spending reached 780,906 million euros, a growth of nearly 8% in a year.

 

"The Health Insurance Fund 2012 budget was 100% fulfilled," said Estonian Health Insurance Fund board chairman Tanel Ross. "We increased both family doctors' and specialised medical aid financing to improve availability and the long-term care budget increased faster than planned," he said.

 

At the end of last year, 1.24 million people were covered with state health insurance, 46% of them were employees. 5% were insured by the state and 49% were persons equalled with the insured.

 

973,882 people visited the family doctor last year. People visit the family doctor an average of 5.5 times year.

 

Specialised doctors were visited by 795,581 people. A specialise doctor is visited on average for 4 times a year.

 

The fund compensated over 300,000 sick leaves last year, which was around the same as in 2011 and spent nearly 99 million euros on compensating costs of medicines.
