Bank of Lithuania awaits proposals of topics to be memorialised in collector coins

"Collector coins are the money that represents our country, therefore, the Bank of Lithuania devotes much attention to the topics of coins and their minting quality. Traditionally, we issue into circulation 4-7 collector coins per year, we plan their subjects after advance consultations with the public," said Audrius Misevicius, Member of the Board of the Bank of Lithuania, Chairman of the Currency Design and Production Commission.
According to the usual practice, the dates of events memorialised in coins should conform to such sequence: 10 years, 25 years and then every 25 years, the Bank of Lithuania said in a statement, writes LETA/ELTA.
The Bank of Lithuania will await proposals on the historical events or famous persons to be memorialised in collector coins in 2014-2015 by 21 May 2012.
"During the preparation of the new plan of issue of collector coins, we will evaluate the proposals received by the Bank of Lithuania," promised Misevicius.
Collector coins commemorate landmark events in the history of our state and the world, prominent people and architectural monuments. The Bank of Lithuania has already issued 71 collector coins and 7 circulation commemorative coins.
