Estonian insurance companies have received over 200 damage notices due to storm

Print versionInsurance companies If, Salva, Ergo and Swedbank P&C Insurance have received over 200 damage notices in connection with the storm that has ravaged Estonia for the past couple of days, LETA/National Broadcasting reports.

Mostly these have been damages to roofs and trees falling on buildings.
In Ilbaku village in Viljandi county, the storm literally wiped away a barn for 64 cows. Ojakääru farmer Rein Tammekivi hopes for help from insurance since the building was insured.
According to If, 60% of Estonian homes are not insured though, which means, among other things that people have to pay themselves for the storm damages. If's property insurance product manager Merko Kimsto said also that people should revise their insurance contracts to see if they have adequate protection – a large part of clients have insured only the apartment or house as collateral for a bank loan but not insured home assets.
