The Central Union of Estonian Farmers will have a meeting with Prime Minister of the country on November 15 to discuss the amount of farm subsidies under the EU common agricultural policy.

In 2009, subsidies to farmers and food producers stood at 224 million euros, of which 62 million euros came from Estonian taxpayers and the rest from the EU budget, as the data of Estonian Agriculture Registers and Information Board shows, LETA/ERR writes.

The farmers' union hopes to increase subsidies by 2013, the year that the EU's common agricultural policy will be reformed.

The average direct subsidy for Estonian farmers was 755 euros, whereas the EU average was 10,430 euros, according to Eurostat. The EU country to receive the least farm subsidies is Lithuania, while Denmark receives the most.

Estonian farmers suffered losses of 110 million euros last year, according to Statistics Estonia.
