Riga councilmen support allocation of additional LVL 1 mln for social benefits

Yesterday, deputies from the Riga City Council's Committee on Social Issues supported the allocation of additional LVL 1 million for social benefits.

The Riga City Council's Welfare Department requested to the municipality to allocate LVL 1.08 million in emergency budget amendments.

 

As the municipality's social relations specialist Laila Ivana told to LETA, the situation in the municipality's budget guarantees that the necessary additional financing will be allocated.

 

The number of poor persons in Riga has increased from 20,728 persons this past February to 28,018 persons in July.

 

In Riga unemployment rate in February 2010 reached 12.5%, in March 12.9%, in April – 12.6%, but in June 11.6%. There is a forecast for autumn that unemployment rate will increase because there will be no seasonal work.

 

In connection with alteration in laws and regulations in 2010 benefits are allocated also to those who have taken loans.
