Lithuania's central government debt totaled 28% of GDP in January

Central government of Lithuania had a debt in the end of January 2010 in amount of 26.310 billion litas, or 28% of projected gross domestic product (GDP) for 2010 (which totals 93.819 billion litas), the data of the Ministry of Finance of Lithuania shows.

Central government was indebted to domestic financial sector 5.707 billion litas, non-financial sector – 355.9 million litas, other creditors (households and non-profit institutions) – 1.084.9 billion litas.

 

Over the month, central government domestic debt increased by 430.9 million litas. Total central government domestic debt amounted to 7.147 billion litas, or 27.2% of total central government debt, at the end of the month.

 

On 31 January 2010, central government foreign debt made up 19.163 billion litas, and this accounted for 72.8% of the total central government debt, writes Bloomberg/LETA.

 

Over the month, central government foreign debt increased by 219 million litas. In the end-month, central government was indebted to foreign financial institutions 16.302 billion litas, to international organisations – 2.860 billion litas.

 

Total long-term central government debt amounted to 25.047 billion litas – 95.2% of the total debt, short-term debt – 1.263.7 billion (4.8% of total debt).
