Amount of insurance premiums in Latvia decreased by 26% in 10 months

Print versionInsurance companies in Latvia signed premiums worth LVL 225.5 million in the first ten months of 2009, or 26% less than in the same period last year, according to the Latvian Insurers' Association data. The amount of compensation payments, on the other hand, fell by 12% to LVL 143.1 million.

Life insurers signed premiums worth LVL 37 million altogether – an 18% fall on the first ten months of 2008, and paid LVL 23.8 million in compensation – a 13% increase, writes LETA.
Risk insurance companies' premiums dropped 27% to LVL 188.5 million, and the amount of compensation payments fell 15% to LVL 119.3 million.
In the first ten months this year, life insurance companies' premiums made up 16% of the insurance market (15% in the first ten months last year), whereas the proportion of risk insurance premiums was 84%.
The Insurers' Association data comprises results reported by eleven risk and nine life insurance companies and providers of insurance services.
