Latvia’s President: budget is no meteor

Interviewed this morning on LNT TV, President of Latvia Valdis Zatlers commented that "a budget is not a meteor that falls from the sky unexpectedly." This in wake of the top headline story about a meteor landing in rural Mazsalaca yesterday evening.

Also headline news this morning – the government's efforts to pass the 2010 national budget, and the president commented in this regard that "it is being drawn up very carefully." He called agreement on the LVL 500 million cut "the first accomplishment."

 

Zatlers added that there is concern at this time about whether the government's projections on revenue in next year's budget will materialize, writes LETA.

 

The president emphasized that most important is to pass the budget as soon as possible.

 

The Cabinet of Ministers is already in session at this hour, following a closed meeting with the social partners.
