Latvian government adopts new plan for preventing money laundering

The government behind closed doors today adopted a plan of measures in prevention of money laundering, funding of terrorism and distribution of mass destruction weapons in 2020-2022, reported LETA.

The plan has been prepared by the Interior Ministry and it has the status of restricted information, therefore it was reviewed during the closed part of the government meeting.


The Interior Ministry explained that the plan provides to continue implementation of the plan of measures that is in force until December 31, 2019.


The new plan is based on international, national and sectoral risk assessment, recommendations of international organizations and results obtained during implementation of the current plan.


The measures are grouped in 11 directions of action that meet the efficiency indicators applied by the Council of Europe Committee for the Prevention of Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing (Moneyval).
