Housing loans granted to Latvia's households down 0.2% in 5 months

The amount of housing loans granted by the Latvian banks to households was EUR 4.352 billion at the end of May 2018, down 0.2% or EUR 10.6 million from the end of 2017, informs LETA, according to the data released by the Bank of Latvia.

The portfolio of short-term housing loans (up to one year) contracted 15.4% or EUR 13.7 million to EUR 75.1 million at the end of May 2018.


The portfolio of one to five-year housing loans declined 13.1% or EUR 7.7 million over the first five months of this year to EUR 51.2 million at the end of May, and the portfolio of long-term loans (more than five years) grew 0.3% or EUR 11 million to EUR 4.226 billion at the end of May.


At the end of May, long-term loans made up 97.1% of all housing loans granted to Latvian households (96.6 at the end of 2017). Short-term loans made up 1.7% (2%) and medium-term loans (one to five years) accounted for 1.2% (1.4%) of all housing loans issued to Latvian households.
