Latvian banking sector makes EUR 219.513 mln profit in 8 months

The Latvian banking sector closed the first eight months of 2017 with EUR 219.513 million in profit, writes LETA, according to the information from the Latvian financial regulator, the Finance and Capital Market Commission (FKTK).

In August the banking sector earned EUR 21.575 million in profit.


Thirteen Latvian banks and five branches of foreign banks showed profit in the first eight months of this year, according to FKTK spokeswoman Agnese Licite. Their combined share in the Latvian banking sector's assets was 97.1%.


At the end of August 2017, banking assets totaled EUR 28.627 billion, down 2.9% or EUR 869.254 million from the end of 2016, and up 0.6% or EUR 162.843 million from the end of July this year.


Bank deposits at the end of August had dropped by 5.2% or EUR 1.108 billion to EUR 20.249 billion.


The banking sector's aggregate loan portfolio was worth EUR 15.146 billion in late August this year, rising by 0.1% or EUR 16.65 million from late 2016.


The Latvian banking sector’s profit in the first eight months of 2016 was EUR 341.805 million.
