Number of active customers in Latvian banks drops 2.5% in H1

Latvian banks had a total of 2.183 million active customers at the end of June 2017, which is 2.5% or 55,300 customers less than at the end of 2016, informs LETA, according to the Association of Latvian Commercial Banks.

1.993 million bank customers were private individuals at the end of June 2017 – 2.2% down from 2016, while 189,700 customers were legal entities - a reduction of 4.9%.

 

Swedbank had the highest number of active customers at the end of June – 956,100, a decrease of 0.4% on 2016. SEB Banka had 439,600 clients (4.6% down), and Citadele had 277,100 clients (1.1% down).

 

DNB Banka had 160,300 active clients at the end of last year (1.3% down on 2016), Nordea Bank's branch in Latvia had 89,100 clients (11.1% decrease), Norvik Banka – 78,300 clients (4.7% decrease), BigBank Latvian branch – 64,600 clients (6.3% increase), Meridian Trade Bank – 28,900 clients (2.3% decrease), PrivatBank – 27,900 clients (16.7% decrease), and ABLV Bank – 21,600 clients (4.4% decrease).

 

A bank customer is considered active if his or her bank account was used for at least two transactions over the past six months, except for paying bank commissions.
