Baltic trade unions prepared to cooperate re Luminor Bank
Trade union leaders from Latvia and Lithuania who visited Estonia recently were offered by Estonian union leaders an in-depth overview of the problems of employees related to the creation of a new Baltic bank called Luminor by means of a merger of the Baltic operations of DNB and Nordea, the Estonian Trade Union Confederation (EAKL) said.
"Since in the new Luminor Bank we will have a Baltic bank, its human resources policy will expand also to Latvia and Lithuania. We share the conviction that the new bank must not ignore the international fundamental rights of employees, and in order to ensure this the trade unions of all three countries are ready to work closely together," the chairman of the Estonian Trade Union Confederation, Peep Peterson, said.
He said that colleagues from Latvia and Lithuania informed the Estonian side about how financial sector employees in other countries have organized and reassured Estonian unions of their support should that be needed.
